Innovative electronics packaging concept wins BASF design competition
Guangzhou, China – December 11, 2015 – BASF today announced the winner and runners-up of its “Materials Today, Innovations Tomorrow” design competition, which was launched at Chinaplas 2015. The design competition challenged designers to submit ideas to turn BASF’s materials into new designs of innovative applications for fields such as consumer products, automobiles, building, and medical devices.
“The competition was a great platform for us to stimulate the creative use of our materials together within the design community. We will continue to work closely with industrial designers and engineers to bring to life more innovative designs utilizing BASF’s high-performance materials to meet the growing market demand for products with lightweight features and new functions,” said Andy Postlethwaite, Senior Vice President, Performance Materials Asia Pacific, BASF.
Alex Zhe, Design Engineer at Broadway Group, has won the award for his inspiring electronics packaging box design. BASF also recognized two runners-up for the award: the concept yoga shoes by Jieping Huang, Designer of TEAMS Design and the photocatalytic air filter by Wu Rong, Postgraduate student from Tong Ji University’s Materials Science & Engineering faculty.
The winner was awarded a prize of RMB 10,000. A prototype of the winning design will be manufactured and promoted by BASF. The first runner-up and the second runner-up were awarded RMB 5,000 and RMB 3,000 respectively.
