Make the multi-link

 

There is a clear trend towards multi-link suspensions in the automotive industry, even in smaller vehicle types. Here, too, it is possible to make use of Cellasto® properties.

 

Mounts exposed to a low torsional load can be designed as almost pure tension-compression bearings.

 

If the required changes at the fastening points of the link are taken into account early enough, benefits can also be derived in terms of saving construction space and material for metal parts.

 

The next step is a technology developed to produce bearings that can also withstand higher torsional loads. Initial tests are run at BASF facilities. The decisive factor to be considered is the durable connection between metal parts and Cellasto. Appropriate bonding agents are currently being tested.

 

Bearings are calibrated to reduce the tensile stress building up within Cellasto components under load. Another benefit of calibration is the pre-compression that can be applied, which makes it possible to keep the operating range of these bearings within the linear characteristic range. At the same time, calibration increases fatigue strength. The dynamic stiffness of Cellasto bearings is more favorable than that of rubber bearings. If a new axle is designed with the use of Cellasto components in mind, designers not only benefit from Cellasto's properties but also save construction space and material for metal parts.
