High-performance building envelopes

 

Homes and commercial buildings use 40% of our energy. But a properly designed, high-functioning building enclosure can reduce a structure's energy consumption by up to 40%.

 

The envelope separates interior from exterior and provides the interior space with protection from external elements. It controls heat flow, moisture flow and air flow. It provides structural integrity and protection from rain, snow, hail, wind, dust, pollutants, allergens and pests.

Closed-cell, spray-applied polyurethane foam (ccSPF) materials, including ELASTOSPRAY® roofing systems, WALLTITE® insulating air barrier materials for commercial construction and SPRAYTITE® insulating air barrier materials for residential construction, offer industry-leading air permeance ratings combined with superior R-values of R-6.7 per inch.

 

Applied as a monolithic system, these materials expand to close every gap in the enclosure, providing almost-total air leakage control, as well as moisture-vapor transmission resistance, for a truly sustainable, higher-performing building envelope. They even add to structural strength by increasing rack and shear, providing resistance to flood water for up to 72 hours, and, in the case of the roofing systems, offering the industry's highest wind uplift resistance.

 

BASF patented STYROPOR® expandable polystyrene (EPS) technology in 1950. Today, we offer the next innovation: a graphite-enhanced EPS called NEOPOR®. NEOPOR's unique silver-gray color and exceptional insulation characteristics are a result of high-purity graphite integrated into the polymer matrix. Graphite reflects and absorbs radiant energy, decreasing the materials thermal conductivity and increasing its R-value.
